Why so serious...ly sleepy? |
The other night I closed and got off work around 2:30am (ish). Had a meeting the next morning at 8:50am (because 9:00 would be to much to ask for right?!?). By the time I got home, showered and finally knocked out, I'd say I got about 4.5 hours of sleep tops. Yes, I felt like a damn zombie the next day. Either way, afterward I had breakfast with some co-workers then headed home and SLEPT.
Problem is...I HATE taking naps! They make me feel like garbage after. So while that 3 hour nap seemed like a great idea, I wound up feeling more exhausted when I woke up later on. People think I'm nuts when I openly declare my disdain for napping.
What's your take? Do you people enjoy nap time? Am I insane or do I just need to perfect my napping technique?
I don't like naps either. I'm with you, they just make you feel worse after you wake. I've had some half decent naps though. My biggest problem is that it takes me ages to get to sleep unless I'm seriously tired though. By the time I get to sleep when napping it's time to wake up.
ReplyDeletepower naps for me....20 minutes anywhere - just not on trains, unless they're going to London
ReplyDeleteI can't nap. If I nap, I feel like shit afterward. What I do when I'm overtired is get to bed early (if I can). The extra continuous sleep I get that night is a real refresher the next day.
ReplyDeleteI try to keep my naps under an hour and a half.
ReplyDeleteYeah naps are a pain in the butt, too long and you feel like crap afterwards. Plus you can't get to sleep as easy when you should be at night. hate em
ReplyDeleteThey are rarely for the better.
ReplyDeleteI avoid naps at all costs myself. If I HAVE to, a power nap much like G will do. 20 minutes or so and done, start being productive and keep the energies up.
ReplyDeleteYeah, D4 is correct. a power nap is the only way to go. But you have to have perfect quite, darkness, and a nice comfortable place to sleep. At least I need that to get a fast 20 min nap in.
ReplyDeleteMan I'm exactly the same as you are, if I fall asleep for a few hour nap I'll be just as grouchy and messed up as I was before the nap, if not more. I'd stay away from them buddy.
ReplyDeleteIf the nap is over an hour and a half, i feel even more tired. The trick is to avoid the deeper sleep that occurs after REM sleep.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like I'm the only fan of the nap here! It doesn't count as a nap unless I sleep on a couch. I love drifting off for a nap and then waking up somewhere besides my bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI like to sleep a lot. In fact, I don't know why I haven't killed myself yet. :P
ReplyDeleteI hate siestas and the day after total nite out like yours. Just wears you out. But night normal naps, I am all for it.
ReplyDeleteWe should talk to insomnia people, my uncle was one of them, whenever he tries to list his achievements all you gotto to throw is "I can sleep like a baby at night"..hahaha pure evil fun.
I am so glad you brought this up, this just reassured me that the article I wrote about changing the sleep schedule really applies. Naps shouldn't be longer than 20-30 minutes, otherwise It'll start to slowly shift your sleep schedule, making you feel tired too. :)
ReplyDeleteI try to keep my napping to a minimum because it throws off my regular sleep schedule. Naps were critical to me back during my days in college.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding man? I nap every day. Every single day. I might be a cat.
ReplyDeletetaking a nap is important and is a necessity....
ReplyDeleteNaps are a lot more awkward than full sleeps because if you wake up too early from it, then you haven't completed a full sleep cycle which leaves you feeling like crap.
ReplyDeleteI'm not positive about this, but for most people it takes 10-15 minutes to fall asleep, 2 hours to enter deep sleep, and then I think a full sleep cycle is about 90 minutes which goes from light, to deep, to light again. If you wake up at the end of this, you'll feel great, but half way through it or early in it and you'll feel terrible.
I remember reading somewhere that if you are going to take a nap, only take one for 60 minutes. After that, make sure you wake up or it will just leave you feeling drained again afterwards.
Napping is for women, naps fuck you up....
ReplyDeleteLittle cat naps always make me feel worse too. lol.
ReplyDeleteDude, I don't wanna sound like a queer or nothin', but I think you should eat some fruits. like oranges, apples, kiwi, pomegranate. energize ya up in no time.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I wish I would have seen this post sooner. I'm the Nappy Queen.
ReplyDeleteI love them but just when I don't need to wake up later haha... but if I have to do things after the nap I feel like I'm still dreaming =S
ReplyDeleteNaps are essential to the human mind. In my belief, only 6% of people don't need to nap because they actually sleep while awake. The others just need a good, quick snooze after lunchtime.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 kind of naps: Sleepy naps, and good naps.
ReplyDeleteSleepy naps are after I've only slept some 1-5 hours during the night. Taking a nap after that RUINS me. Quite literally.
But if I have had 7+ hours of sleep, I have the most delish naps.
Quite odd, really.
