Trayvon Martin Murdered: Something Is Wrong

murdered over Skittles.
So this story, about 17 year old Trayvon Martin being shot and killed by a overzealous neighborhood watch captain in Florida last week is about 3 weeks old now and the dude who murdered this kid has yet to be charged with a crime.

long video but here's a brief rundown:
-17 year old African American kid is walking to his dad's house from the store.
-He's carrying Skittles and a canned tea.
-Is confronted by an armed neighborhood watch captain (who's 10 years old/100lbs heavier).
-Ends up getting shot in the chest and dies.
-Shooter claims it was self defense.
-My brain explodes.

Heartbreaking. Infuriating. Tragic. Disgusting. All of the above.
The one and only Youtube sensation The Amazing Atheist has a video post about Trayvon Martin and other horrifically disturbing news headlines that remind us all how ass backwards we are as a species.

I don't enjoy being a Debbie Downer all the time but man, these types of headlines make me wish for Global Warming or that super volcano/Caldera under Yellowstone to kick into gear and end our fucked up reign of terror over this planet.

It's an election year here in the states, so we're about to be bombarded with all sorts of congratulatory, self righteous, nationalist propaganda that usually would just annoy the hell out of me. It's hearing that type of vapid rhetoric after being exposed to ugly truths like this that make me want puke.

I'm not all fire and brimstone though. I really think one day, in the future when humanity finally breaks free from the divisive/oppressive/exploitative shackles of organized religions and capitalism; we can all live together as happy little commies in a true Star Trek like utopia. But that's the distant future. If we don't nuke ourselves first.

I leave you with Detective Somerset:

=True that. You can say that again.
I am disgusted about the way media and all the guys comment based on the skin tone and justifying it based on stereotypes.
Trust me, last night I couldnt sleep and was so confused about this kid (are you kidding me?self-defense??) Felt the same way about that austistic kid who was shot and killed by cops who were called to subdue him.
Again, Dharun Ravi case? Everyone is happy that he got guilty verdict but they dont know or dont want to know whether he is guilty or not. They werent concerned about the gay guy but only this Indian guy.

Looks like we are still in 1950s and 60s.

  5. That is just despicible, with all the lawyers and all the garbage and yes that organized religion as well, things will never get better because someone always wants to vye for control. Do away with the whole lot of the crap or if people wised up and didn't need to be told and just said no sometimes.

  7. It's these little things that can make a nice day bitter. I heard about Zimmerman not being charged a little while ago, and that ruined my day. I shouldn't care, I didn't know anybody there, but it HAPPENED which is bad enough, what's worse is it's STILL going on. Just, ugh.

  9. Disgusting that this moron hasn't been charged and put away for a long time, thanks for bringing this to my attention buddy, such an interesting yet intensely frustrating crime.

  11. Man, those skittles and tea are deadly weapons nowadays. As long as people are people, I don't think there will ever be a happy little utopia on any scale larger than a small commune. Someone will always want a little more and think themselves superior to everyone and try to control it. Plus self-righteous people who think they're always right will always try and get rid of anything different than them. Maybe one day people will realize that those kinds of people aren't the best kinds of people to put in positions of power and stop it, but I don't think it would be anytime soon.

  12. It is a crazy mixed up world.
Personally I blame a lot of this on the media and the over sensationalist way everything gets reported. Fear sells, yet no one stops to think what the effect that fear has on ordinary people. Yes this guy should be locked up, after all someone died...self defence or not.

  13. I'm outraged that the neighborhood watch guy who murdered this young man was not arrested on the spot.
