Cops Gone Wild? So This Happened...

Monday, Jan 23, 2012: Some whacked out dude with a crowbar/pipe starts smashing the windows of a local Carl's Jr. fast food restaurant. Patrons and employees flee the scene. The police arrive and order the man outside. Mr. crazy man exits, weapon in hand and takes a taser to the face without flinching. He then turns toward the officer who tased him which causes the other cop (who happened to be holding a k-9 police dog as well) to shoot him 5 times at point blank range. The first officer ditches his taser and then he fires another 5 five shots. Two cops (with a k-9!) shoot one guy 10x at point blank range...and it was all caught on video.

I used to eat at the Carl's Jr. just about every other day when I attended East Los Angeles Community College in the mid 2000's. That restaurant is directly across the street from campus. If it was a good day, I'd munch on some Carl's Jr. then head over to Tower Records and not catch up on readings. It's kind of surreal seeing something like this happen at one of my old haunts.

No doubt the guy was either insane or on drugs. He had a weapon and the instant he charged the first cop he basically sealed his own fate. But really...TEN SHOTS?! I'm not saying the cops should have tried mace or batons or mud wrestled the guy, they can shoot to kill if threatened. But one, two or three shots to oh I don't know, the face perhaps would have done the job right?

*WARNING*
Here is the FULL UNEDITED video.

10 rounds. Really? I think they were justified in shooting him...but even then, this is flat out overkill.
The guy died at a local hospital shortly after. Which was to be expected, after the cops turned his chest into Swiss Cheese.

  1. That's crazy, absolutely crazy. I mean you're right they should have shot him but I believe when shooting in the police you should try to just injure them or something. That's just harsh and over exuberant.

  2. Yeah those cops definitely have anger management issues, not sure I'd feel safe having them around. Overkill indeed

  3. This is indeed very disturbing, just the first guy shooting 5 rounds is way more than needed.

  4. I DO think it's a bit much. LIke probably 7-8 shots of too much. But maybe I'd feel differently if my life was in danger...? Not that the crowbar was any match for three guns, but maybe there's more to this story...? But that still doesn't excuse the excessive gunfire. This comment is going nowhere quickly.

  5. Well if pepper spray and tasers didnt works and a guy with a crowbar is that close and tries to sswing at your face, I would of shot too.

Yeah looking at it from out comfy laptop in our comfy chairs we can say OMG FUCK DA POLIICEEEE all cry cop abuse but what would you do in that situation?

Dont get me wrong ive had alot of run ins with police and I abolutly hate them. But compared to other real police shootings and abuse this one seems fine.

Dont swing at police officers with guns on you after they yell at you to put your hands up. Common sense is common.

  6. i can understand the cops being unnerved when the guy doesn't go down after being shot, but they could just shoot to incapacitate him. 10 shots is crazy

  7. Holy cow! 10 rounds! thats crazy. But if they guy was not even bothered by the tazer there was something going on, must have been on some kind of drugs. But just goes to show you, don't mess with the cops if they have their guns out. sheez!

  8. I think they would have at least set the dog on him. Just release the dog brah. The guy was down or dead after the first five rounds, there was no need to go in for another five.

  9. Your neighborhood is fucking crazy.

  10. This is why I am glad to live in the country. No cop station in at least 30 miles.

  11. That crazy guy didnt deserve this. If every insane drug addict had to be shot to death, America's population would drop to 1/4th.
Looks like cops were more scared to death and were more insane than the taser guy. Arent cops suppose to serve and protect?
Even a homeowner wouldnt shoot an intruder this many times to protect his kids as self-defense, those cops shouldnt be allowed to carry more than a pepper spray.

  12. I can understand the first 5 shots. Panic, the guy might've been lunging and when choosing between a fellow cop or some crazy guy who's already done his damage, I get it. 5 shots is still excessive, but panic. I wouldn't have done any better. What really pisses me off is the second set of 5. 10 shots. What for? He might lunge the crow bar at your face while he's falling? The way I see it, if they were ordinary people acting in self defense, the first cop would get away with it but the second one would be facing time. I mean come on!

  13. They had a dog why not just tell the dog to pounce on the crazy guy? 100 pounds of teeth could probably keep that guy pinned. The five shots are understandable. A dude with a crowbar is trying to attack you. Panic reflex. He was falling down after the first five. The next five weren't necessary. But I wasn't there in their shoes, so I don't really know for sure.

  14. Wow, that was a bit too much. First five shots, yes. The guy went for the officer and he had to be taken down fast. After that, it seems crazy. I don't know what the tension is like there, so I don't know why a cop would react in such an uncontrolled manner. But, if someone broke into my house I'd empty a full clip into them.

  15. 10 shots really is overkill. Cops are meant to be trained to incapacitate the perp first, not kill them. They should have been shooting out his legs instead of putting him in a firing range.

Seems a little overdone there... but hey, do what you gotta do. It's not like that guy was a peaceful protester. lol.

  19. It doesn't really look like he attacked the cop, it looks like he just lunged forward to show no fear to the cop.

I don't think cops should be that trigger happy. I've seen people act more violent then this and it can be resolved peacefully if the cops arn't out for blood.
