MIA: Birthday Week

"Hey bud, let's party!"
Hey hey Blogger world! I've been MIA lately...sorry about that. I took a mini vacation down to Cornado Island this past week to celebrate my *gasp* 28th birthday. Fun times were had. I also enjoyed one of the gnarliest concert/time travel experiences last week, watching amazing Iron Maiden, Metallica and Rage Against The Machine tribute bands perform at the House of Blues in Anaheim. I should be back to blogging soon, but til then:

Happy Birthday Paul Thomas Anderson!

Paul Thomas Anderson is my favorite director. I view his films like stone tablets from Mount Sinai. I've ranted about PTA ad nauseum on this blog, but guess what? Even more PTA love to celebrate the man's 43rd birthday.

This is a short edit that highlights all of PTA's films (excluding 2012's The Master).

Here is a special in depth video that explores PTA's technical genius behind the camera:

The Career of Paul Thomas Anderson in Five Shots from Kevin B. Lee on Vimeo.

And I'll leave you with an example a shinning example of PTA's twisted humor:

Happy Birthday sir. I can't wait to see what the next 20 years of your career will bring.

Birthday Celebration

Hey there. I've been MIA this week. I was working like a mad man and then on Thursday, celebrated my 27th birthday. What does oldman river do on his birthday? Well I spent the day with my girlfriend at The Getty Center, had dinner with family and saw a movie with some friends. Yeah, party animal I know.

b-day @ The Getty. Gangsta
I've never been too found of birthdays. In fact I used to loathe them. I gotta say this year's celebration was pretty rad.

The Herb Ritts exhibition at The Getty was awesome. Something Jay would love for sure. My girlfriend spoiled me with a bunch of dvd's from Amoeba and then as we walked across the street to catch our movie we encountered a special someone in the lobby...Natalie Portman. Yes, the Female Obsession honoree from February 2012, Natalie Portman in the flesh.

I've encountered my fair share of random musicians and celebrities before, usually saying something casual like "hey" or just ignoring them all together and letting them do their thing, but seeing Portman standing 3 feet away from me was straight up insane. I was paralyzed. My usually silver tongue turned to mush and I went into Wayne Campbell mode, "WE'RE NOT WORTHY."

She was with her husband and they seemed to be running late to their movie. I wanted to call her Matilda/Padme/Jane/Nina, ask her about securing the rights to all those Metallica songs for the film Hesher she produced, inform her that I saw Black Swan at this same theater two year earlier, and show her my driver's license as proof that it was actually my birthday and if she could please just acknowledge my existence. I wanted to do all those things, but I choked. As we stood inline for snacks I managed to ask "What are you guys seeing?" as they passed by. Her husband answered with, "The Campaign..."

And like that, she was gone. I was kind of amazed Natalie Portman was rushing off to go see The Campaign of all movies. The ticket guy agreed. "We can't judge her" he said as we exchanged, OMFG I just saw Natalie Portman in person and she looked damn amazing in those giant heels banter with one another.

So yeah. Happy Birthday to me.

Exhausted @ Disneyland

My girlfriend's birthday was this weekend. Spent 11 hours at Disneyland yesterday (mostly California Adventure but whatever) and can no longer feel my legs. Had fun though. We went out with friends the night before and the time change successfully kicked my ass as well.

where nothing can possi-blye go wrong
I hadn't been to Disneyland in over a year so I was stoked to finally get on the new Star Tours 3D ride. It was sweet. We went on that and Soarin' Over California twice. Also did Tower of Terror, California Screamin', Toy Story Midway, Big Thunder Mountain, and saw the World of Color show. Did I mention I'm TIRED? We have annual passes again now so my aching feet will probably be back in Anaheim before I know what hit me.

The force is strong with this ride...

Back to the GRIND...

So my little birthday vacation is over. Had an interesting week off but alas, I must return to reality. Since I'm back to the work day grind, I've got a little grindcore video from Singapore's finest for ya'll. Enjoy the Wormrot folks. See you and all your blogs soon.

My Birthday

Me in the late 80's. Batman cake FTW
So today is my birthday. I'm not a fan of getting older and usually loathe/dread my birthday every year but this time, I'm indifferent. Lots of things have changed for me this past year so I'm slightly less morbid about my countdown toward certain death and will try to actually enjoy myself for a change. I have the next couple of days off from work and although I have a post or two scheduled for ye ol' Jim's Fear bloggy blog, I may not be following ya'll so much. As a consolation for my absence I have a sort of birthday gift for you bloggers...

enjoy this kick ass Iron Maiden tune on loop until I return!

no love for Eddie and the boys? Too bad. It's my birthday and I'll blast Iron Maiden if I want to.
That would be so rad if I got an Iron Maiden/Eddie cake. Super Rad. *crosses fingers*
